Cut Copy - Cold Youth

For people who like gay hard dance.

box

Redial is signed to sweatitout you already know that and you already know Redial because we post a lot of him. If you hate his stuff you will hate this track if you like his stuff you will love this track. It’s really hard as per usual and again if you don’t like hard dance then you won’t like this track but if you do like hard dance you will love this track. I guess that’s my parental advisory esque disclaimer.

Mercy Arms vs Club 77

mercy arms

We don't usually do these guest blog things but when emails read:

"i read your blog that often.
saw mercy arms last night. Post this if it's cool enough for you. If it's not then fuck you."

I feel obliged to.

Guest review by Kieran McClean:

Clearly keen to bathe in the messy nostalgia of Dungeon 77, last night Mercy Arms played their 2nd of 4 shows this month. They obviously hold some affinity with the place and i was keen to see if their live act was finally tightened.

The rising Sydney 4 piece manage to make a lot of noise for rather small dudes. Favourites from their debut EP such as Scream, Kept Low and uptown address had heads nodding, feet tapping and it became clearly evident that this uber cool crowd was desperate to dance the night away to the plethora of indie tunes. As promised, they dropped new tracks from their forthcoming album and if this performance is anything to go by, it should surely be amazing.

The eccentricity of guitarist Kirin Callanan in the end was too infectious. His dance moves mimicked by the crowd even escalating into some rather odd, alcohol fuelled greek dancing in the front row. With music bursting through the depths of club 77, it's hard to envision Mercy Arms performing to so few, for long.

Mercy Arms - On and On

Van She

vanshe

Van She seem to have a 50% success rate with myself, half their EP I dug half I didn't. I really dig Strangers though, like I really really do. One unnamed hipster head honcho quoted 'It's so bad it's like unbuttered toast." I genuinely replied "I like unbuttered toast." I guess any single that gets remixed by Yuksek and half of their own band (Van She Tech) is bound to win in the house of blogs, whether we say we dig it or not. Oh and happy mothers day.

MIT MY GERMAN LOVE CHILD

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Finally, after waiting a month for it to arrive from Germany, it's here! It is Coda. Coda is cute. Coda is different to the old MIT, Coda is more mature and less vocally MIT. I like MIT a lot, you would probably like MIT and if you read this page in June 07 you would probably remember MIT you should probably buy MIT. Here's the first single off their latest touch, "Park". Along with Goodbook, MIT.

MIT - Park

MIT - Das Ziel

MIT - Was War Es

If we spent money bringing MIT to Sydney and Melbourne and maybe even Brisbane would you Sydney and Melbourne and Brisbane people maybe come watch?

THE ALT POP POST

HV

Disclaimer: It's 1:16am and I really don't know why I'm blogging these tracks.

You probably think there is nothing worst, a track that is like a catchy-electro/elektro-Mickey-Avalon-female-chipmunk-version-who-sounds-slightly-like-gwen-steffani & Robyn.

Yet there really is no explanation why Angie Reed isn't a bloghouse queen. She could easily fill the boots that Santogold is walking in at the moment and would be super cute doing so. All her other tracks are far less commercial electronica then this one, genuinely quite a fan. But this is the one your getting. Not really my sort of blog thing but maybe you will like it. More German love.

Angie Reed - Gaudy Good

Umm. I might as well commercial out and post a Cat5 track which is like Ladytron meets Madonna meets Holly Valance. I genuinely liked top40 Holly Valance past her good looks. Even though she was so hot. I still remember how much I dug her when her former manager took her to court and she spawned some make shift law get up.

Cat5 - Sexy

Both tracks were featured on Chicks on Speed's 'GIRLMONSTER' compilation, if that saves any blogcred.

MOCK&TOOF

Label hopping duo Mock and Toof have already kicked off the new year with a bang, proudly representing two unbelievable 12-inches around their belts; Beat Up on Tiny Sticks and Big Hands for a Lady as the first release on their own mutant creation M&T Inc.

I also can't stop listening to their remix of Ladyhawke's Back of the Van, which was included on the EP, so track that down too it's definately worth a listen.

Mock and Toof - Lucky

THE SMITHS UNDER REVIEW

I remember about a year and a half ago i used to listen to this album on the way to work pretty much every shift, the amazing thing being that if i hit the play button at the precise moment i locked my front door the album would finish at some point while going up the second set of esculators just outside of my work.

With the Smiths' Queen is Dead being the latest addition to the Classic Albums series, and the DVD clocking in at around about 180 minutes i'm probably going to have to scope out a couple of detours on the way to work just to keep up to standard. Included in the feature are both studio and live recordings of all the songs on the album and interviews with the band, Tony Wilson and Stephen Street (the album Engineer).

The street date is set for June 10 (according to Amazon.com) roughly 22 years after the album's original release date, so get camping.

The Smiths - There is a Light that Never Goes Out

WE WANT SOME PUSSY

Yep it's the infamous 2 Live Crew anthem, and Sydney beat maker Spod has decided to throw his horrible, horrible 80's throwback sleeze to it all.

And where can I get this shit for real? Well this is the honest release info..
"To deliver this, SPOD decided to get classique and do what the Beatles and T Rex did and drop wax! Damn, the plates were even pressed at Abbey Road, possibly by John Lennon himself. Thanks John!"
Animals 7" out May 19th.

NEV'R FAIL

Brookyln synth feens, Holy Ghost, have thankfully dropped a second remix, this one being of an artist by the name of 'Only Fools and Horses', who i have had no prior exposure to or currently have any information on, but i'm assuming are from the UK, or at least fans of UK comedy. Upon listening to the A-side i'd strongly recommend keeping an eye out for name because it's a pretty banging track.

I also heard that Holy Ghost are working on a second 12", which i hope is accurate as i promised i'd go on a listening hiatus from 'Hold On' when the play count hit a million and it's been sitting in the red zone for a while now.

Only Fools and Horses - Spectacle Wins (Holy Ghost Remix)

New York Beat

Apache Beat

Wooooo, more Apache Beat for you to love and for Dave from Hyperbole to hate. And if you don't remember your first introduction to Apache Beat click here. P.S. Is there a law against eating Hommus and Crackers for breakfast because it tastes so right yet feels so wrong?

GHOSTLY SWIM HAS COME!

ADULT SWIM DO IT AGAIN!
like i love Adult Swim cartoons. I hate the fact that since i am not american i can't watch the cartoons on the website (and i really hate the fact that there is no way that comes to mind to trick it out, go on nerds have a try!). But everything else i love about them, especially their new cd they put together with Ghostly International (some indie pop label who i'd never heard of till now) titled "Ghostly Swim", which you can stream below or you can download from their "Ghostly Swim page" for free! It's the kind of cd i could imagine hearing at some wanky coffee shop in an alley with my girlfriend or something. But cafes have just discovered the amazingness of MGMT and we will be hearing their record instead for the next 6 months or so. Fav song on this compilation is the Michna track.

123 Amazing

JUSTICE

With a name like 123 Amazing is it even worth trying to drop word describing them? Is it even worth telling you they're from Sydney? Is it even worth saying that they sign their emails;

Love love

??????????????????????????????????????????

Is it even worth going on with this? Does anyone even read this?

However it is probably worth saying that these are demo's, which probably potentially could/might even give you reason to get off the WWW and out on the town to one of their shows, if hearing them on FBi's beforecast hasn't already.

123 Amazing - Automatic

123 Amazing - Pressure

PS. I trawled thecobrasnake.com trying to find a cute girl to make you more interested in the post and potentially spark a bit a buzz. However it's getting late so I pulled the pin and decided to just run with the whole 'viral marketing - blog justice' thesis and as mentioned blog Justice. 123 Amazing are going to get so many more friend requests now.

JEPPE

this is my friend manny b shes my sweetheart

Historical comparisons aside Johnny Come Home by Jeppe is one quality sing along pop hit bound to make the latest adjective fact. He's got all the right friends in his top 8 and even his main project Junior Senior. Without risking sounding like Carles, but has Ladyhawke got some cyberlove thing going on cause she seems to be playing her numbers right in everyones top 8? You probably should download this:

The Presets - Are you the One ( Lifelike remix)

presets lifelike remix

So often I find myself let down by the majority of Presets remixes that get put out and circle the web. So the fact that I was finally greeted in my inbox by something this special means that today is pretty good day even though Phoebe broke her arm last night! Even though she doesn't have a computer let alone the internet I'll still send some bloglove her way, get well soon baby and enjoy the remix.

Got Teeth

This afternoon I woke up in a three-man spoon, sweating out rave juice with Faces of Meth still on repeat. We ordered Pizza Hut for breakfast and played Goldeneye 64 until Willis chewed through the controller lead. Melbourne is so unhealthy but way more fun than Sydney.

Oh this sawng's mayst!

I can't get enough of Aeroplane, and their new single is no exception, with disco honey Kathy Diamond giving it her 70's touch.

The A-side sounds sort of like a much groovier and shorter version of a Delia and Gavin track, whereas on the B-side Andy Butler (Hercules and Love Affair) drives you to the terminal, checks you in and flies to you a mysterious place you've only ever dreamt of.

Watch out for their debut album due late this year i think.

SANTOGOLDS RELEASING AN ALBUM

Santogold is easily the next big thing in the "its hip hop, but it sounds like indie and I can dance to it" world, and to prove it she's got a shiny new self titled debut album coming at the end of April (the same date as GTA 4 in Aus infact).

Getting the producing touch from fellas such as Disco D, Switch, Diplo and even more big hitters, expect this one to blow up big!

Santogold - Starstruck

And that is an AWESOME jumper.

If you missed out last night I feel for you baby.... Sydney hipsters make sure that you runoff to see Fred Falke this coming Sunday... I am still recovering from last nights amazing show and am struggling to string an inspiring sentence together, so ill just leave that up to the track below.

Bagraiders remix of the year?

calling in sick remix

Whenever I read anything offline about The Bagraiders, it is all how they're 'sooo proper musicians' and they're classically trained. Well in saying that I don't think this remix, by fellow Sydney homeboys Calling in Sick, could get anymore classical as they themselves have clocked their fair share of traditional music theory. This is quality, people.
Do the math:

+Sydney vs Sydney
+Duo (unofficially?) vs Duo
+Classically trained vs Classically trained
+Bloghouse vs Bloghouse
+Big future vs Big future

= The Bagraiders - Fun Punch (Calling in Sick)

Breakbot

He's from Paris and like most people from Paris, makes some pretty fantastic music.

What I didn't realize until today was that he was actually touring Australia.. and it turns out he's the DJ support for Pnau too.

UNDERAGE AND LOVING IT

Kissing girls

Dave from Hyperbole swung Phoebe and I tickets to Muscles even though neither of us are or have been Muscles fan previously but it was Sunday night and there was nothing on so we went. And wow now i know how Cut Copy are #1 in OZ at the moment. It was crazy being an all ages show there were kids everywhere moshing on each echelon from the floor to the highest tier, sweat pouring out their glands and when E.L.F. dropped 'My People' it became officially weird, I've never heard/seen anything like it, with the chorus chant near deafening and floor starting to rumble thanks to the vibrations caused by synchronized jumping it was all so full on. It left me wondering... Did someone spike the complimentary water with a whole bunch of E? Am I really getting too old to go to all age shows? Is E.L.F. going to be the next Vampire Weekend? It all was too much for DJ Pheebz so we pulled the pin early without even seeing Muscles. Still was an experience though.

This is one of the tracks E.L.F. left in our inbox it's sort of like Ladytron just not as good as.

E.L.F. - Billie

GANG GANG DANCE

gang gang dance

It amazes me that for how vast and dynamic the internet is, it is just so easy to get caught in a bubble. Clicking back over previous posts it's rather obvious that havefunclub. has slowly had it's compass redirected to the same direction of which the majority of hypemachine head towards, which sort of disappoints me. Rather then ramble on we vow to make hfc more diverse like its early days or as Carles@Hipsterunoff would say "diversity big in 2k8".

Misspelled, Gang Gang Dance would read as your favourite thrusting dance move. However dialed correctly GGD melt together everything that was good about your year 8 weed-smoking-art-class-teacher's music taste and blend it with everything that makes New York, New York. Leaving us with audio that oozes with steez yet at the same time really classically classy. Kind of like Karl Lagerfield, so then - so now.

Gang Gang Dance - Nicoman

Oh and did anyone else see Gameboy//Gamegirl in yesterdays Sydney MX?

Once again WARNING!

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS!

*

So they released this epic album called Dystopia last year and along the way got some nods from big timers like Justice, about 99.9% of the blog community, all of the Modular back catalogue, Busy P, those Pitchfork fellas, NME and all the rest - but fuck, who really cares hey? (apart from the nod from Busy P, i'd have to get a change of pants if he did that shit to me.)

They're baller.

So why not reminisce or have a first time listen to one of their original tracks off their first EP - from way back in 2004 (aka 4 years ago!).

Midnight Juggernauts - Safari World

*this track is Fire Below, off the same EP - but I don't know if this video is legit or not..

pnau

Just over 5 months have passed since James posted Wild Strawberries. And it's pretty safe to say the guy passed out on the server overload screen on hype machine should be paying him royalties for the promo he's been getting ever since. So why hasn't anyone blogged this yet?

Quite Debatable, but is this not the or one of the best tracks on the album?

Kid E out of nowhere sent me this BEP edit by a man who untill yesterday I was totally unaware of.... so all the info i release here is quoted (definatley incorrectly) from the recent 24 hours of msn with the man who changes his name every 30 mins....

GOLDEN GHETTO SEX / TRANNER 4 AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR 2008

hot sweaty sex
THE GOLDEN GHETTO SEX EP - IS NOW OUT IN SHOPS.

What does this mean for you?

It means you can finally make fantasy reality and have the most kudos earning display picture on myspace just like 19 year old Hocks pictured below posing with the Golden Ghetto Sex EP.

It also means you can rip it to your ipod and listen to it on the train or tram and jot potential myspace comments down in real time,on your note pad, sort of like Eminem in 8 mile.

And if the whole I-go-to-the-bank-and-take-out-money-to-pay-for-a-cd-then-
I-go-home-and-rip-it-at-128-because-i-cant-work-out-how-to-change-my-preferences-
in-itunes-then-put-it-on-my-ipod thing is too 2004 for your liking then go search for it on beatport or itunes, you will find it.

P.S. I'm also nominating Tranner for Australian of the year 2008 so if you'd like to see him on stage with nothing but a medallion hugging his skeleton then sign the Tranterco 08 petition in the comments.

New Presets

The Presets aren't homo

If Jori Hulkkonen was a footy loving, beer drinking Aussie his mates would undoubtedly nickname him 'hulk'. Which would be quite fitting as his remix of 'This Boy' is just like the green cartoon character himself BIG. Yet placed beside Apocalypso, the Presets forthcoming LP, it would lay in a cover of darkness overshadowed by 2008's best album?. So here is the part where I probably should confess that you should definitely buy/preorder the most anticipated release of 2008 right here.

The Presets - This Boy In Love (Jori Hulkkonen remix)

Disclaimer: The Dazed cover has nothing to do with the post and is really on there to look pretty and make this page slightly more visually engaging as your favourite/least favourite blog is in the process of receiving a bit of a... another face-lift.

Oh and is this not the most insane quality youtube video ever:

Love Your Mi - Goreng

Daft Punk

Rooell didn't post the best remix of the week as the best remix was posted yesterday which just so happens to be the same song I'm posting now but with a more hype machine friendly tag. Rooell did however remind me how much Mi Goreng noodles deserve more props.

Daft Punk - One More Time (Redial also loves his Mi Goreng remix)

This is that guy who did that harder better faster stronger remix that everyone from Armand Van Helden to MSTRKFT drop, but he changed his name to Redial. If you're from Melbourne you might remember when i dropped the first 2 minutes of his first draft on third class radio a few months back and if you're one of the 2 million who messaged asking for it, here it finally is.

Daft Punk - One More Time (Redial makes ME sad remix)

YOU SET ME ON FIYYYYERRRRRRR

Yo one of my fave peoples in the world, Ladyhawke, just released her video for Back Of The Van. Its so so good. And I love plugging her cuz then i can talk about how her and Spandex Sarah taught me how to dj and then im makes me feel cool by association.

I Want The Candy!

I heard this song a couple of weeks ago and I can't get it out of my head. It's You Want The Candy by The Raveonettes. They're a Danish duo that play 50s & 60s style vintage pop. I think their sound openly reflects their influences such as The Smiths, The Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley and The Clash.
They say the name Raveonettes is a direct reference to their inspirations, The Ronettes and Buddy Holly Rave On. I like it when bands do that.

The Raveonettes - You Want The Candy

French House At Its Finest

You think Daft Punk are cool, they've got nothing on RAW MAN!

The two Raw Man EP's on "WE ROCK" are some of the most amazing pieces
of music i have set my ears on. Cosmic synths take you on a journey like no
other, as you lose yourself in the music you are lifted into space!
